Spicy Cauliflower Bites

Spicy Cauliflower Bites

These spicy cauliflower bites are one of the most lip smacking snack recipes. They are crispy, flavorful, and delicious. Spicy cauliflower bites are a very easy dish to make with simple ingredients like cauliflower, wheat flour, breadcrumbs, milk, and some sriracha sauce. They are totally addictive.

If you are looking for some healthy, spicy, and delicious recipes then definitely try these cauliflower bites. You can make these bites as a side dish, appetizer, as a snack with your favorite ranch dressing or dip.

Flour and milk batter gives a great crispiness to the oven roasted cauliflower bites. Adding breadcrumbs to the cauliflower bites gives that extra crunch to the dish. I have tried this recipe with all purpose flour and wheat flour. Both taste very nice but white flour gives the best taste to the dish. I try to eat less white flour, so I have used wheat flour but you can use all purpose flour if you like.

When cauliflower florets are roasted to perfection, they taste divine. Adding sriracha or hot sauce takes them to the next level. I am sure you will love to cook these bites frequently like I do 🙂

I love using these spicy cauliflower bites in my tacos with some avocado sauce and some salad. They taste really amazing! Once I was on pinterest and saw a lovely looking tacos pin from hiddenvalley.com and got the idea of using my spicy cauliflower bites in my tacos… yumlicious!

  • Breadcrumbs
  • Red chili powder
  • Black pepper powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Sriracha sauce

Spicy Cauliflower Bites Step By Step Recipe

Cut large florets of the cauliflower (half large head). Soak them into the salt water for 10 minutes and wash. Set them aside on a colander. I like to use my salad spinner for cleaning the cauliflower.

For Batter

In a bowl, add some flour, garlic powder, red chili powder, pepper powder, and salt. Mix everything well and combine milk to make a lump free batter.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and brush 1.5 tbsps of oil.

Add cauliflower florets into the batter and coat them well. Another option is to pour the batter in a zip lock bag, add the florets, and shake them well.

Once the cauliflower florets are well coated, remove the excess batter. Dip them into the bowl of breadcrumbs using a spoon one at a time. Coat them well with breadcrumbs.

Transfer the florets to the baking tray and spread them apart.

Preheat the oven to 425℉/220℃ and roast the cauliflower for 17-20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Set aside.

For Spicy Sauce

In a large bowl, add sriracha/hot sauce and ½ tbsp oil. You can adjust the spice level – if you use less sauce, increase the amount of oil, so cauliflower will get well coated with the sauce. You can add buffalo sauce as well.

Transfer the baked cauliflower to the large bowl and toss them with the sauce. You can dip each cauliflower floret into the sauce as well.

Transfer the cauliflower bites back on the baking tray and bake them for a few more minutes until cauliflower bites are crispy for about 4-5 minutes.

Tips For Making Spicy Cauliflower Bites

  • Cut the cauliflower florets large or else they will end up being mushy and less crispy. The larger chunks allow the cauliflower bites to cook/brown nicely and maintain the texture.
  • You can buy a bag of pre-cut cauliflower as well.
  • Make sure to remove excess batter from the florets so cauliflower bites will not turn soggy and maintain the same texture.
  • Bake them right before serving for the best tasting and crispy bites.
  • They are tasty at room temperature as well but they will turn a little soft.

Variations

  • You can use all purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour in the recipe. I have not tried it with any other flour yet. Using all purpose flour makes the bites more crispy.
  • For a vegan option, you can use water instead of milk in the batter. I have used water, low fat milk and 2% milk so far and all of them worked very well in the recipe.
  • Skip adding breadcrumbs in the recipe if you don’t have them. They provide extra crunchiness to the bites.
  • You can use a buffalo sauce or hot sauce instead of sriracha sauce as well. I have tried the bites with Frank’s hot sauce and works perfectly well but add ¼ cup of the sauce in the recipe.
  • I have mixed some oil in the sriracha, you can add some softened butter and it tastes amazing as well.
  • If you like your cauliflower bites less spicy then omit adding chili powder in the batter.

How To Store Spicy Cauliflower Bites?

Cauliflower bites taste best when served hot and fresh.

Store the leftovers in an airtight container for 4 days in the refrigerator. Reheat them in the oven before serving them.
